Roomspiration- Master Bedroom

Happy Friday!

I don't know about you but I am ready for the weekend. Do you have any big plans? I it might actually be a slow one around here. It's been a busy week finishing up the master bedroom and some new blog design projects. The hubby is working so I think I might just veg out and relax...but before the relaxing begins, it's time for another Roomspiration party!

Photobucket

Today, the party is being hosted by the lovely Rachel of Just a Touch of Gray and it's all about Master Bedrooms!

I am so excited to see Rachel's big reveal. She and her husband have been working on their master bedroom for awhile, and she promised to show it off for the first time today.

Behind the scenes, I've been making some changes to mine as well. When we first moved into our home in 2008, I was dying for a chocolate master bedroom. It was the first wall color I decided on for our home. More about it here and here.

Photobucket
* This has been our master bedroom for the past 3 years.

Well, three years later I was ready for a change and to lighten the room a little.

Here it is now (it still isn't finished, but here are the changes so far)...

A few changes left to be made...

My goal is to lighten and brighten, yet keep it cozy. Some of the dark still needs to go. The furniture set was my husband's before we got married, it's really nice(and the only furniture left from his bachelor days)...so it will stay.

However, I would like to change the rug out to something lighter, maybe something like this...

Chunky Wool Boucle Rug from Pottery Barn

I have ordered some fabric samples to make 2 new decorative pillows for the bed. I am keeping my fingers crossed the samples arrive tomorrow.

I am leaning towards this Robert Allen gray and tan ikat fabric, but I have a few more samples coming too...

Robert Allen, Modesto Chamon Ikat

Maybe instead I will add a touch of lime...

Bromptom Pewter Suzani

or a fun eggplant...

Fahri Grape Suzani

Finally, I would like to slip cover my orange slipper chairs. I love the orange, but it doesn't work with the new scheme.

Ikea

I would like to create this look, using a tan textured fabric like this...

Nest Egg

Oh, and I can't forget the mirror above the bed....no set plans for that yet...maybe paint, maybe change it out for artwork. I'm not sure.

Now, I just have to find the time and money to make the changes, oh and learn how to slipcover slipper chairs.

As you can see, I still have big plans for this room and a lot of unfinished business. I am excited that I took the first step and painted it Behr Silver Sateen and dyed the drapes (more on that in another post).

Have a fabulous weekend!

Don't forget to head over to Just a Touch of Gray to link up your master bedroom.

Fall Wreath Tutorial and Roomspiration-Nursery's

Have you seen this wreath floating around Pinterest(or maybe on my blog post last week)?

Well, I had no idea until yesterday where the original image came from, but I knew I loved it
and I had to have it for my front door!

I recreated it for less than $20.00 with items on sale from Hobby Lobby.

You will need:

*wreath (I used grapevine, but straw may work better)

*moss (first round: I used peat moss, but re-covered with spanish moss-spanish worked better).

* small pumpkins (I used real, but recommend fake)

*glue gun

* floral wire (if you use the real pumpkins)

*ribbon

Photobucket

How I Did It: Don't worry, it's easy!

Step 1: Cover the wreath with the moss, glue it down as you go with hot glue.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Finished with the moss.

However, it looks awful because the grapevine is not smooth and it looks like the bottom right has a huge growth!

Step 2: Buy spanish moss and re-cover. Glue the spanish moss down with hot glue.

Photobucket
It's going to look much better, I promise.

Step 3: Add the pumpkin(s).

This step would be super easy if you used the fake pumpkins with the stick, but I of course made the project harder on myself by using real pumpkins.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Poke two holes all the way through the pumpkin and feed the floral wire through. Twist the floral wire together at the bottom of the pumpkin.

Step 4: Secure the pumpkin(s) to the wreath.

Feed the floral wire through the grapevine wreath, and twist to secure the pumpkin to the wreath.

*I only used one pumpkin on my wreath because being real, they are 1) pretty heavy and 2) a little larger than the pumpkins in the 1st wreath image.

Voila!

Photobucket
I think it still turned out cute with only one pumpkin.

Thank goodness I was able to cover the large growth with the spanish moss.

Ready for a couple more photos of our fall front porch...

If you're not in the mood to DIY your wreath, the original wreath (which I found on pinterest) you can buy from Two Inspire You, on Etsy.

Today, Shelli from alamode is hosting Roomspiration-Nursery's. If you have a nursery, or need inspiration...head on over the alamode and link up.

Tell Me Tuesday...Bam or Slam!

BAM for Thomas O'Brien's Hick's Pendant.

If you're in the market for a Hick's pendant, or two, you can find more information at Circa Lighting's website.

If you're not in the market to buy lighting, but want to see some seriously gorgeous eye candy,
I recommend scrolling through Circa Lighting's website anyway.

This week, let's talk open shelving in the kitchen. How do you feel about it?

Roomspiration and Moodboard Party!

Photobucket

Today's Roomspiration party is all about KID'S ROOMS!

The ever fun and fabulous Aubrey from All Things Bright and Beautiful is hosting so be sure to head over (after you read my post of course) and link up.

If you don't have a kid's room's to share, don't worry...make one up like I did, or just stop by to say "hi" to Aubrey. I promise you don't want to miss her blog!

In addition to Roomspiration, there is another fun party going on today that I know you'll want to check out...which is one reason I did a moodboard.

It's Moodboard Monday at Pewter + Sage. This week's inspiration... wallpaper.

I really wanted to participate in Roomspiration and Moodboard Monday, so I decided to"kill two bird's with one stone" and design a little girl's room around Leafy Sky Paper from Layla Grace.

This paper is beautiful. It is soft, feminine and sophisticated. Perfect for a little girl's room.

Photobucket

I started with the Leafy Scroll wallpaper as my inspiration and the design grew from there. I knew I would have to add pink. I mean, really...do you know of any little girl who does not want pink in their bedroom?

The Leafy scroll wallpaper (#1) is only being used as a focal wall behind the bed. The remaining walls will be painted (#5) Pool Party and the trim throughout the room will be painted (#6) Snow Day.

Pool Party, Snow Day

Custom Roman shades will be designed for the space using a soft cream fabric with a pink striped grosgrain trim (#2).

In this style

Custom Bedding will also be designed using a soft gray for the duvet cover (#14), euro-shams using a gray and white stripe (#13) and a fun pink geometric (#12) pillow will finish off the bedding.

Finally, to top off the pink touches in the space...a pink geometric area rug (#3), and a bench at the foot of the bed, upholstered in a pink buffalo check print(#11).

When choosing furniture my for my imaginary kid's room, I wanted to be a little practical and use furniture that would last. Or maybe I am just loving Restoration Hardware's catalog right now and wanted to take full advantage of using it in my "imaginary room" because I can.

Either way...the bed, dresser and nightstand are from Baby&Child Restoration Hardware.

Finally, to finish off my sophisticated and feminine kid's design...lighting. As you know, lighting can make or break a space and in my imaginary kid design it is no exception.

A soft gray pendant will add a modern touch offsetting some of the traditional lines of the furniture and will be sophisticated enough to keep in the space as the little girl gets older and wants to change her room.

And this pretty, modern table lamp will be on the nightstand. This I am not sure is practical for a little girl's room, but it's pretty and fun and I'm having fun, so it's a perfect way to finish the room!

Thank you for stopping by, I hope you had fun playing make believe with me today.

Now head on over to All Things Bright and Beautiful to link up your kid's room!
