Dreamy California Home Tour

Did you see this incredible home in House Beautiful last month? When I saw it I almost dropped my jaw it is GORGEOUS.

The design is by designer Myra Hoefer. The article states that she designed in a "white, monochromatic color scheme, mixed with lots of texture"to make the large, open rooms feel more livable.

What do you think? Do you love this home as much as I do? Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the use of color and pattern that I forget how truly awe inspiring a neutral design scheme can be.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!

I am very excited. This weekend Alfred and I are heading out of town. We are taking one last opportunity to spring ski before the slopes close for the season. We both love to ski, but have actually never gone together, so it should be a great weekend.

Now on to my favorites for the week.

This amazing Reading Room Redo from The Lettered Cottage. Can you believe how incredible this room turned out!? I wish I could curl up on that bed and stay awhile.

I thought this post by The Now about how to mix prints properly had some great advice. My favorite tip #1 to use stripes as a neutral. I had never thought of it as a neutral, but truly it is.

Finally, did you see this awesome closet over at Domestic Jenny? She turned her guest bedroom into a true walk-in closet/dressing room. What a transformation and true labor of love.

I hope you all have a terrific weekend, see you Monday.

Ask The Designer

Today is the start of my new series, Ask the Designer. I will run it on Thursday's, as an opportunity for me to help with you with your design dilemmas. If you have a dilemma and would like advice, please email me your question and send pictures to themustardceiling@gmail.com.

This week our question comes from a wonderful reader, Kristen. She and her husband are newlyweds and rent an apartment. She would love to add more color to her space, however, they cannot paint.

Currently, my living room is a bit too much brown/black/beige. I would love to incorporate more color, especially with spring on the horizon. What are some easy, inexpensive tips to add more color to our space?

This is her current living space

Here are Tips on Easy Ways to Incorporate Color...

Throw Pillows, such as these:

Add fun, colorful Graphic Prints to your wall.

On a large wall, if you group in three, it will be a more dynamic statement. Choose three prints that coordinate, frame them in simple frames and hang together to create a cohesive piece of art.

Accessorize with colorful accessories such as, a fun lacquer tray, or something as simple as fresh flowers will brighten a room.

If Kristen and I were working together, I may put together a moodboard similar to this, as a way to incorporate more color into her very neutral living room.

1. Love Lives Cozy Here, 20.00
2. Fresh flowers
3. Charcoal Lattice pillows, $12.99
4. Yellow Suzani Mod pillow, $12.99
5. example of 3 graphic print layout
6. Yellow lacquer tray, $29.00
7. Navy chevron pillow, 15.00

How do you incorporate color into a space? Do you have any additional tips to share?

Color Pop: Coral

I have recently been inspired....inspired by all the beautiful shades of coral. Coral is known to evoke happy feelings, and is often described as fresh, glowing, blushing, healthy, rose-colored. Why would I not be dying to add this color to my home?!

Today, I am working on a new project, hopefully it will turn out as delightful as it is in my head. I am hoping to incorporate coral into my scheme....are you curious yet?

For now, I will leave you with these lovely inspirations....

Which color combination do you prefer?

Coral and Navy...

Coral and Aqua...

Coral and Yellow...

Or the dramatic Coral and Gray...

Can you guess which color combination I am using? Which one is your favorite?

Have a great Tuesday.

Congratulations....

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. I certainly did. Saturday morning, hubby and I went garage sale hopping. Unfortunately, we were not very lucky in the garage sale department. However, I did find an interesting chair at Goodwill....it was $14.99, so I had to buy it.

Take a look:

Overall, it is in great shape, the lines are nice....it is just in dire need of a makeover. For now , it is living in the garage until I find the time to figure out what I am going to do with it. Hopefully I will magically learn how to sew slipcovers and it will get the makeover it deserves...we'll see.

I am also very excited to announce the winner of my 1st giveaway today. Congratulations Carly, from Honey and The Moon.

Carly won a year's subscription to Dwell magazine.

Have a wonderful Monday!
