Roomspiration-Dining Rooms

Photobucket
It's time for another Roomspiration party-dining rooms! Today's party is being hosted by Jena at Involving Color blog.

I have posted A LOT about our dining room. I honestly think this room suffers from an identity crisis at this point, it has been changed around so many times.

Many of my DIY projects were completed for this room, and I have posted it as my "favorite" room on a couple of blogs (Sadie + Stella, A Lived in Home), but I have never written a post for my blog about this room...so I am sharing the post with you I wrote for Megan's Makeover Monday at A Lived in Home because it sums up everything about my dining room.

My husband and I bought a 1950's brick rancher when we moved to New Mexico in April, 2008.

Since then, we have been working on transforming every room in our house to make it our own .

We started with our dining room...and boy has it seen some changes.

It was the first room we started renovating when we moved in, because it was the worst.

Here is our dining room now:

This is what it looked like when we moved into our home.

I have to admit, I was not a fan of the rustic, green barnwood wainscoting...so
the day after we moved in I told my husband it had to go.

He built the wainscoting, which drastically changed the look and feel of the room.

Photobucket

After he built the wainscoting, we painted the room SW Dovetail gray
and moved in our furniture.

This spring, I decided the room needed a little more color and I started adding pops of coral.

I started by designing and sewing these burlap drapes trimmed in coral.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I still felt like it was missing something...
so I DIYed a coral ikat print for the chairs...

Photobucket

and added fresh artwork.

Thought I was finished, didn't you?

Nope, two more changes were in order:

1. I made a tailored table skirt to turn my hand me down sofa table into a buffet table

Photobucket

and

2. changed the artwork...
(can you count how many times it has been changed in this post alone?)

Photobucket

When I look back at where we started, I can't even believe it is the same room.

Hopefully, this room is finally finished, I am pretty sure it has had a full-blown identity crisis.

But, I have to ask...is a room ever really finished?

Thank you for stopping by!

Now head on over and link up your dining room at Involving Color so I can read all about it!

Tell Me Tuesday(Thursday)...Bam or Slam!

I'm sorry for missing BAM or SLAM on Tuesday. We got home from Denver really late
Monday night and I spent Tuesday catching up from the trip.

So today is BAM or SLAM Thursday!

Last week, we discussed cowhide rugs, it was almost a SLAM,
but slid into the BAM position with one vote.

This week, I want to know how you feel about Thomas O'Brien's Hicks pendant...

Simple Ways to Decorate for Fall

It is that time again...Do you decorate your home for fall?

I usually don't go overboard with seasonal decor. However, fall is my FAVORITE time of year and I do try to show a little of that each year in our home. I was on pinterest looking for easy ways to decorate for fall and wanted to share a few simple ways to bring fall into the home.

Bloggy Bootcamp and Roomspiration

Good morning!

I'm signing in from Denver this morning, it has been an amazing trip! We are spending the day here and driving home this evening....I have to admit Denver stole my heart a looong time ago, and I am not excited to be leaving this evening.

If you have not had the the chance to visit the "mile high city" take the time to do so, it is awesome.

Photobucket

The excuse I had to visit Denver this weekend was to attend Bloggy Boot Camp. BBC was my first opportunity to get together to meet fellow bloggers. It was perfect as it is a small conference, limited to 125 ladies, full of support. Tiffany and Francesca are dedicated to creating a supportive environment to learn about blogging.

We had various speakers throughout the day speaking on topics such as how to brand yourself, exercises for writing content, etc. Overall a great day! I highly recommend Bloggy Bootcamp if you have the opportunity to attend.

I have had an email going around over the last two days asking if I will be attending Blissdom or Haven this year? Being new to blogging, I had never heard of either conference, but after attending Bloggy Bootcamp I would love to join more conferences...I can't wait to learn more about them and hopefully will be able to attend. Will you be attending any bloggy conferences this year?

Now that I have rambled on WAAAAY more than I usually do, it's time to get back to business :).

It's time to link up another room to the Roomspiration par-tay! Today, the party is guest bedrooms and is being hosted by Judy at the lovely DIY by Design.

Our guest bedroom is another room that was completed before blogging. I hope, at some point, to have the opportunity to change things up a bit in there. It is where we house all of our "hodge podge" pieces. Nothing was purchased for the room, it was all left-over from the two of us combining our homes. We did however, paint the stripes.

Have a Happy Monday...see you when I get back to NM!

New Blog Designs

I hope you're having a great weekend so far!

I'm in Denver this weekend at Bloggy Bootcamp, I'll let you know how it went when I get back.

It was a great week for designing, I had some really fun projects to finish up before heading out of town.

Tiffany from Living Savvy asked me to help her give her super fun blog a facelift. Did you notice the different backgrounds? She liked two that I sent her and asked if I could install one for the home page and the second for her static pages. Read more on what inspired her design here.

Ivette contacted me for help with the design for her new blog You're a Hot Sexy Bitch Love, Me.
She was looking for something pretty and feminine. Ivette is moving to Paris to write a book and is planning on using her blog to highlight some of process.

And I'm so excited...I finally have business cards! I have been meaning to design them for awhile, but kept putting it off...but I finally did it.

Here is the final design...

Thank you ladies!

Roomspiration-Bathrooms

Hi Y'all!

Are you ready for another party!? Today the party is moving over to Homemaker on a Dime.

This one is all about bathrooms, so head on over (after you read my post of course) and link up a new or old post about your bathroom.

Photobucket

You'll have to use your imagination a little when picturing the "before" of our bathroom, it was BB (before blogging) and I didn't take photos. We made over our bathroom in a weekend.

When we moved in it was a typical 1950's bathroom with what looked like maybe a small renovation in the 1980's...definitely not what I would call fabulous.

We stuck to the cosmetic changes, as we have with the majority of our home.

We're military so we don't plan on living here very long, actually it's been longer than expected ...but it's definitely not our forever home, so I try to improve without over improving for the area or the amount of time we will be here.

So back to our bathroom. My mom and grandmother were flying in for a visit and I decided that our bathroom had to be nice when they arrived...so my hubby and I busted it over the weekend to remodel the bathroom before they arrived on Tuesday.

This is where your imagination comes in....

Photobucket

Photobucket

The tile was mint green and pink (you can still see the floor, we didn't change it). The walls were white, typical 1950's medicine cabinet...you get the idea.

We started with the tile, painting it with Tub & Tile epoxy finish. It smells AWFUL, but it is an epoxy so it has a hard, gloss finish and looks like tile, not painted tile.

I can't remember if we brushed or rolled it on, but it worked great! There are a couple places that have chipped over the past couple years, but they sell a touch up.

Photobucket
After it is painted on, it has to "cure" for a couple of days.

After the curing process we changed the lighting, replaced the vanity, tore out the old medicine cabinet and shower door and framed in the mirror over the make-up counter...and

VOILA!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Originally we planned to re-tile the floors, but we have not yet...the original mosaics don't bother me now that the whole room isn't mint green and pink.

Now head on over to Homemaker on a Dime to show off your bathroom...see you over there!

Dose of Pretty

I am taking the day away from blogging to finish up some design work before I head to Denver for the weekend.

Do you love this entry as much as I do!?

Have a fabulous day!
