How do you feel about the industrial design trend hot right now?
If you look through the pages of Restoration Hardware or PotteryBarn you'll find page after page of items that look like they came from an old warehouse. They're beaten up, rusted, exposed...I LOVE THEM! They look like they have a history, a story to tell.
The question is, how do you incorporate them into your home? Easy if you live in a chic loft, but what about the rest of us?
Here are a few tips to make it work:
* Strive for an eclectic mix in your home.
* To achieve an eclectic mix, spread a few industrial items throughout your home (don't confine them all in one room). For example, the living room trade your coffee table or side table for an old trunk. In the kitchen add an industrial pendant lamp or metal bar stools.
*Mix up different woods, they don't have to match.
* To soften the industrial look add natural fabrics (soft fabrics, fabrics with texture) and distressed woods to your design. This will keep the space from getting too cold and industrial.
*Most of all experiment and have fun!
Now you're asking, where can you find industrial pieces? Everywhere. Search flea markets, antique stores, old reclaimed buildings. Look for aged and distressed carts, trunks, old wooden pieces.
But, if you'd rather buy new Restoration Hardware and Pottery Barn are filled with great pieces right now. I have also recently found some on moderndose and mothology too.

What do you think? Like it, Love it, Hate it? Will you be adding industrial elements to your home?
I like to mix in a few industrial elements. I don't like things to match too much and this is a great way to add texture to a space.
ReplyDeleteI am in LOVE with the industrial modern trend. In love.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I are definitely going for the modern "Dwell" type look with our new (old) house. I also want to have that industrial edge, though. I love scouring flea markets and antique stores for "found" items that we can mix in.
p.s. I just wish the Industrial trend wasn't so "trendy" right now. : (
