Sweet Valentine's Treat

Happy Valentine's Weekend everyone!

I have never decorated the house for Valentine's Day, but I do love an excuse to try a new recipe. So I took the time to make my hubby some Heart Shaped Peppermint patties. I found the tutorial on Fly Through Our Window. If you haven't seen Darby's blog, check her out. It is one of my all time favorites.

This is the link to Darby's peppermint patty tutorial. The peppermint patties were very easy to make, and yummy (especially frozen)! I highly recommend freezing the patties before dipping them in chocolate. Darby mentioned in her blog that it might make the dipping process a little easier....it did.

Here is my recap:

Need:

* powdered sugar
*peppermint extract
*sweetened condensed milk
*semi-sweet chocolate chips
*shortening

Mix the peppermint extract and sweetened condensed milk in the blender. Slowly add the powdered sugar until a stiff dough is formed.

I then placed the dough ball on wax paper (dusted with powdered sugar to help with sticking). I rolled the dough out into a thin layer and cut with a heart cookie cutter.

Next, I placed them on a cookie sheet, lined with wax paper, and placed them in the freezer for 2 hours (flipping once).

While they were freezing I melted 2 tsp. of shortening and a bag of chocolate chips on the stove.

After the chocolate melted, I dipped the heart peppermint dough into the chocolate, flipping to Align Centercover both sides.

After I finished dipping, back in the freezer to harden.

  2. These are totally adorable! I want to try these only maybe I will get my Hubs to make them for me. He is the baker/candy maker in our family. :)

    I love your blog. New reader. Your wingback chair search sounds promising. I think it is all about patience.
