5 Tips for Small Space Living

5. Maximize Storage by Going Vertical

Source

Built-ins and tall pieces of furniture provide extra storage to other wise wasted space,
vertical surfaces, and draw the eye upward.

4. Incorporate small scale furnishings with exposed legs

3. Use furniture with multiple purposes

Use accent tables that provide extra storage.
Storage ottomans are also great because they provide extra storage and seating.

2. Neutral Color Scheme

A light, neutral color scheme creates a sense of spaciousness
by allowing light to bounce freely throughout the room.

1. Large Mirror

Use a large mirror propped against a wall, or stacked mirrors
to create a sense of depth within a space.

Happy Monday!

  1. Great advice! I am always looking for tips to make our tiny postage stamp of a house look slightly bigger (storage is a massive problem for us). 'Going verical' is definitely something that could work for us! Thanks Elizabeth!

  2. I've used most of these elements in our home. All of them together really make a huge difference!!

  3. Our home is fairly small so I'm always trying to maximize our space and try to make pieces multi-purpose whenever possible. With #4 I'm on the hunt to find a credenza or buffet with exposed legs to double as a media stand. Thanks for the ideas.

  6. I think having 'leggy' furniture is a great tip. I almost always look for furniture that has even a very small leg - it makes such a difference! I'm in the process of converting my ensemble bed into something that looks like an upholstered bed with timber legs (hopefully) in an effort to get that little bit more floor space under the furniture. Great post!

  7. Great ideas, Elizabeth. The built ins in the first photo left me breathless...

I'm also thinking that the Ghost Chairs in the second to last photo couldn't hurt. A room would seem bigger if you could see through the furniture :)

  10. My place is teeny tiny, but I do love it. Great advice. Now if only my place looked even remotely like even one of these!
