  1. I'd love to do this...I'm not sure how they would hold up. Would you have to paint every single door? I painted a bank of cupboards in my kitchen navy blue. We sanded, primed, painted. We followed all the rules but it still chips if you knock it the wrong way. I think doors would do the same thing. Right now I'm working on replacing my door hardware. That's a huge project that I'm trying to spread out. Like every project I have EVER attempted it's more expensive than I thought! Thanks for the inspiration...I'm so enjoying your blog.

  2. I would but my question for you is...all of these photos show rooms with VERY good natual lighting. Would still do that in a room that doesn't get much natural light?

  3. This is a fantastic idea! I think I'm going to do this on the exterior of the patio backside of doors in a real dark brown.

    Thanks for the idea!
    Cheers!

  6. Yep, I've already started...our front and back door are black (on the interior too). It really makes an inexpensive door look rich. However, like most things, there is a hidden "con"...it can kinda freak you out at night if you walk through the house with not much light...it can appear that the door is open. Takes a little getting used to. I'm thinking of painting the non-exterior doors a slate gray to give the rich feeling without the open vibe. :)

  7. My mom has dark brown doors and they look great. I think it looks best with really neutral colored walls and furnishings.

  9. Oh yes! I painted the back of our foyer doors high gloss black. Talk about drama! It looks like my husband and I moved out and fancy people moved in :)
Our next step is to remove the wallpaper and paint the walls white for contrast.

  10. Love this look - thanks for the gorgeous inspiration pictures! I have really lovely timber doors in my old house which would look great painted in a contrasting colour - I'm torn between black or something bright.

  11. Hi Elizabeth! I'm just back from vacay and catching up on blogs/comments; thanks so much for visiting Show Some Decor last week!
I love the idea of painting doors black, especially if they are windowed doors... may have to consider this option! Thanks for sharing and hope you stop back by.
