After Before
Can you believe it is the same room?
Can you believe it is the same room?
This is how we did it:
1. Clear everything out
2. Paint the walls
Color: Valspar Meadowlands Green
3. Stencil the walls using Olive Leaf Stencil Pattern Noelle
Color: Valspar Sunwash
(this was the tricky and time consuming part)
Color: Valspar Sunwash
(this was the tricky and time consuming part)
*Tips for stenciling*
1. Lightly spray the back of your stencil with a spray adhesive to prevent the paint from bleeding around the edges of the stencil and attach to the wall using painter's tape.
2. Use a stiff stenciling brush and apply paint using a dry brush technique.
(especially for textured walls, like ours)
3. Dab your brush in the paint, then blot the excess paint off on a napkin.
(this will keep your edges sharp)
4. Apply a thin layer of paint to stencil, dabbing the stencil with your brush.
5. Allow the first coat of paint to dry, and repeat as necessary before moving your stencil.
6. Move the stencil vertically, or horizontally, overlapping the pattern as you move around the room. Periodically check your stencil with a level to keep your pattern and stencil straight.
7. Repeat.
and FINALLY THE BIG REVEAL!
Did you notice I did not stencil the back of the shelves?
I thought the pattern needed offset by a little solid, so I left the back of the shelves
and the wall where the door is located solid green.
I felt the pattern would be too overwhelming if every inch of the room was covered.
What do you think?
I think it is now my favorite room in the house...which is not bad for a laundry room!

I LOVE it! The stencil is super fun! I have my laundry area in our garage and it's UG-LY. I would love to have a dedicated laundry room and make it all cute and organized.

If my laundry room was this much fun- my hampers would always be empty! In fact, I would probably take a book and glass of wine in there to escape the craziness of the rest of the house! Kudos! Great job!

ReplyDeleteElizabeth, this looks great!! I would be skipping to this room to do my laundry!!!
ReplyDeletelooks so good!! kudos!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great, I love how small spaces like a laundry room, hallway bathroom, etc. can have a big design factor. Especially for women like me who want to put our personal touch on places where our husbands do not need any input, it becomes a completely "me" space but it is great when the whole family likes it as well.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job!
KUDOS girlfriend, big big KUDOS!! It looks amazing - and so much hard work you put into that stenciling which turned out amazing. I bet you are doing lots of laundry these days. Now I've got some tips if I ever decide to stencil. Enjoy your fun laundry room!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! Fun and classy together! I'm pretty sure I would keep the clothes washed up better if I had a laundry room like that!
ReplyDeleteJust as I suspected: FABULOUS! I can't believe how much patience you have to do that stencil over so much area! I think I would have (out of *pure* laziness) just done an accent wall and called it good (and probably wouldn't have done behind the appliances, either...yep laziness)...but what you did is straight up impressive and it looks fantastic! I love that it's solid behind the shelves, perfect touch! Can I come do my laundry at your house??? (c:
ReplyDeleteGorgeous stenciling! It really gives it a lot of depth. Thank you for linking to Handy Man, Crafty Woman Wicked Awesome Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteCan I laundry room be refreshing?? Yes maam...I think it can! It turned out GREAT.
ReplyDeleteThat looks fantastic ... it actually made me start thinking about my boring, plain, depressing laundry room in a whole new light. I think I really need to finish the living areas of the house first, though!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting saving4six.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteFabulous! That may even make me want to do laundry!! You did a great job!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteLOVE it! Turned out great. I just posted my laundry room today and am tossing the idea of a stencil around. The main thing stopping me is the size of the space and the fact that the wall has a knock down texture. May be very difficult... I love your laundry room!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking! I love the stencil and the tips. I tried stenciling a wall and it turned out horribly!! So, I'm extra-impressed when a stencil turns out as beautifully as yours.
ReplyDeleteWow! Just amazing! Even the washer and dryer look more upscale in this fabulous room. No wonder this project took "forever"...you did such a great job on the stenciling. Thanks also for sharing your stenciling tips.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing. I wish I had a laundry room to redo and make fun!
ReplyDeleteOh my! This is gorgeous! I'm getting ready to re-do mine, so this is great inspiration for me to go ahead and start. Now following you!

Wow; I LOVE this! I'm sure it took forever but what an impact! Great job!
ReplyDeleteLoving that wallpaper, and the green/white color scheme. I have been on a wallcoverings kick lately, but haven't decided whether to do stenciling or wallpaper, and I haven't even decided on a location to do it in my own home. The laundry room is a great idea! Makes a dull room at least a little more pleasant to be in! By the way, I featured your project on my Metamorphosis Monday post today:
