Tell Me Tuesday...Bam or Slam!

Time for another BAM or SLAM this week!

Source

Last week was a unanimous SLAM!!

I'm not surprised. I posted the photo above to get your opinion on the mirror.

I ran across it while browsing through designer Tom Scheerer's portfolio. I honestly thought the mirror was one of the most hideous things I had ever seen and thought maybe I was missing something....so I thought it would be fun to get your opinions....not one person BAMMED it.

Hopefully, this week will be a little better.

I had an email from a reader asking if I would BAM or SLAM
chalkboard paint...so let's get this party started.

Are you a fan?

BAM or SLAM?!

Have you used chalkboard paint, if so what did you do with it?

  1. I like chalkboard paint in small doses, on a container as a label, a small hanging sign, or a framed menu. The fridge, headboards and entire walls of chalkboard paint is a bit much for me.

  2. I like it.
Smaller walls and boards - not too much.

  3. Bam, I think it's a great invention and can be used in so many clever ways.

  4. Bam!
I love it in a kids room, the kitchen pantry or the mudroom to jot quick notes on, or a recipe, or a grocery list, or your favourite quote....

  5. Bam - but it bugs me when the chalkboard is all streaky and messy.

  6. Bam- We have a chalkboard wall in our office.

  7. Bam! It can be such a fun addition to a space!

  8. BAM & SLAM - we have it on party of our kitchen wall, the chalk dust can be a bit much, makes m floor dirty

  9. Bam- in small doses. I always think the walls look nice in other people's homes but I just can't bring myself to do it in mine!

  10. I love chalkboard paint even though I think it's a fad and will go out of style. I have jumped on the bandwagon and have one in my kitchen that I actually use. I think it's the Bam!

  11. Bam! I just made chalkboard craft tables for the little ones in my life. There is definitely a place for it.

  12. Yes, I would love to incorporate chalkboard paint into a decor. In fact, I have been contemplating it for a while (one can be very creative with it) but I think I would draw the line at headboards. I would say bam.

  13. Bam! I turned an ugly 1970's picture into a chalkboard for my children. I also just painted a wall in my kitchen and am waiting for it to be dry so we can use it. I love that we can turn walls, pictures, well pretty much anything into a writeable, eraseble surface without having to pay an arm and a leg!

  14. Bam! I haven't played around with it just yet, but I've got a few projects lined up.

  15. Bam! I like them but I'm not sure about for a headboard or a whole refrigerator. That could get messy!

  16. total bam. i know it's starting to feel overdone, but we have a strip of it in our kitchen and it's honestly so great to have! i used a coat of magnetic paint underneath, so it's totes practical. and, as an artist with other artsy fartsy friends, kids aren't the only ones that love to draw on it, so we have revolving original art all the time :)

  17. Bam with a side note. I painted my laundry room with black chaulk board paint about 5 years ago with the hope of being able to write notes and draw picutes on it. I live in a tract home with builder grade spray on orange peel over drywall. The bumpy texture is terrible for writing and drawing on. If you use chaulk board paint make sure the surface you are painting is very smooth.

  21. BAM! I have the first picture already pinned as inspiration. I have wanted to chalkboard something for ages!

  22. Bam - because it looks cute and is very clever, but it also gets a Slam from me because I wouldn't be able to stand the dusty, streaky mess.

  23. Bam -if it's in other people's house! Love the examples above! Slam - if it's in mine. All that chalk dust would make me sneeze like crazy!

  24. Well, I think it's a BAM for the look ... but personally, I hate the messy chalkboard dust (and my whole family has mega allergies) sooooo for me, it is a SLAM.

  25. I think I might be over chalkboard paint (used it a bit) due to the chalk dust. I think I am more into upholstered memo boards :) This is a fun series.

  26. I'm so torn but I'm going to be honest and be in the minority here but I'm going to have to SLAM the chalkboard paint. I'm over it. Although, I do think it would be a fun feature in a play area or message area in a mudroom, but generally speaking I'm going to slam. Question - has anyone tried painting over chalkboard paint and how did that go?

  27. I like the concept but I don't like the chalk dust! It's awesome in other people's but not in my house! And the third picture is so inspirational, by the way!

By the way, I am hosting a new giveaway so stop by and enter for a chance to win a piece of fabulous jewelry of your choice. :)

  31. I definitely am a fan of the chalk board paint...but I'm an even BIGGER fan of that last picture. AWESOME SAUCE.

  32. BAM!! For any space for any age! I had one in my old house and it was always a conversation piece, if not starter {giving what may be written on it from past parties!!}

  33. Slam- I don't think I would like the mess, and I think the chalk when erased looks messy.

  34. BAM - I love it and am going through a little obsessed stage.

  35. I say BAM! I have one I framed with molding in my kitchen now - my kids love it and it's super functional. Chalk pens = zero dust; although they don't always erase as easily as regular chalk does. I'm actually working on a project in my entry foyer with chalk paint. It's definitely going to be a love it or hate it kinda project, but I'm paying the mortgage here so I'll do what I like :)

Oh- and I think someone left a comment asking about how easy it is to paint over. It's just easy to paint over chalk paint as any other paint. A good primer may be needed depending on the new color choice. That's why I say go for it- it's just paint- super easy to change your mind!

  36. I'm way late on weighing in on this one but I say - Bam - especially since you can paint right over it easily when you tire of the look (and the dust!) Just sand the edges, prime and paint like you would over any dark paint color. Love to be able to right a menu, a welcome message, a quote, best of all, trade silly notes with my kids!
