I have posted A LOT about our dining room. I honestly think this room suffers from an identity crisis at this point, it has been changed around so many times.
Many of my DIY projects were completed for this room, and I have posted it as my "favorite" room on a couple of blogs (Sadie + Stella, A Lived in Home), but I have never written a post for my blog about this room...so I am sharing the post with you I wrote for Megan's Makeover Monday at A Lived in Home because it sums up everything about my dining room.
My husband and I bought a 1950's brick rancher when we moved to New Mexico in April, 2008.
Since then, we have been working on transforming every room in our house to make it our own .
We started with our dining room...and boy has it seen some changes.
It was the first room we started renovating when we moved in, because it was the worst.
Here is our dining room now:
I have to admit, I was not a fan of the rustic, green barnwood wainscoting...so
the day after we moved in I told my husband it had to go.
He built the wainscoting, which drastically changed the look and feel of the room.
After he built the wainscoting, we painted the room SW Dovetail gray
and moved in our furniture.
This spring, I decided the room needed a little more color and I started adding pops of coral.
I started by designing and sewing these burlap drapes trimmed in coral.
and added fresh artwork.
Thought I was finished, didn't you?
Nope, two more changes were in order:
1. I made a tailored table skirt to turn my hand me down sofa table into a buffet table
and
2. changed the artwork...
(can you count how many times it has been changed in this post alone?)
Hopefully, this room is finally finished, I am pretty sure it has had a full-blown identity crisis.
But, I have to ask...is a room ever really finished?
Thank you for stopping by!
Now head on over and link up your dining room at Involving Color so I can read all about it!

ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful room. I love that it has tailored and rustic elements; subdued and bold colors.
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful! and I loved all its "identities" !
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Love the grid gallery wall and linen skirted table...I have the same thing in my entry way!
ReplyDeleteYou should sell those tailored skirts -- I would buy one!! I love your dining room. Those drapes are amazing too.
ReplyDeleteI love the burlap drapes trimmed in coral - that detail makes all the difference. Beautiful room!
ReplyDeleteI love your dining room Elizabeth and the fact that it is ever changing. I think dining rooms get stale from time to time and we must inject new things! Great post as usual!
ReplyDeleteIt's really a beautiful space. I prefer the black and white photos to the colorful art. They are classic and fill the wall well. Plus it lets your chairs and curtains be even more important as the main color pops in the room!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I always think moulding adds so much.
ReplyDeleteYou did such a great job. I love a good before and after:) the dovetail great paint is lovely.
ReplyDeleteYou're dining room looks great!!! My favorite part are the seat cushions upholstered in the homemade ikat print! I was just curious...what are the prints above your buffet table?
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, your dining room has gone through such an amazing transformation. I can't believe the before and afters! I really love all of the details - the wainscoting, chandelier, chairs, colors, the entire space is beautiful!
