Tell Me Tuesday...Bam or Slam!

Leopard still a classic in design...BAM...unless of course it's tacky leopard
(I think we've all seen that a time or two).

I had to share my favorite comment from last week, Erin, from His and Hers, always makes me LOL and her comment last week was no exception...I hope you don't mind me sharing Erin...

"I'm personally not a fan, so slam for me. I guess it might be okay in small doses, maybe, (I think it works in that green couch photo) but it still just reminds me of women who run around well past their prime in super short skirts and, well, leopard print tube tops. Ack.

Zebra prints, on the other hand, I love in small doses. Maybe because I've never seen a zebra tube top on a fake baked grandmother? :)

This week, one of my reader's wanted to know how you feel about Cowhide Rugs...

How about as upholstery?

Are you a fan?

BAM or SLAM!?

  1. BAM! I think it totally works in the right space. I have seen it used really strangely. I'm not a big fan of them layered on top of other rugs or thrown over chairs (I mean, its a RUG, it goes on the floor). On the other hand, it can look so incredible in a space that's really formal. I love the contrast.

  2. BAM if it a faux cowhide rug---if it is real, I have to go with a SLAM. I love the effect it can give in a rug, but I cannot do the real cowhide--creeps me out.

  3. So much to say about this!! I'm torn, but I LOVE the look. My husband (who couldn't care less what I do in the house) decided he all the sudden had an opinion and hates them. :-( My redneck, deer-hunting husband. Well, it's not his week because I found someone who only sells hides that are a by-product of the food industry and I'm getting a white one for my bedroom. He can go cry in his gun rack when it gets here.

    BAM!

  4. BAM! Well, not for my house but in light airy spaces I think they can look awesome.

  5. Agree with Kim, a Bam for other spaces but I wouldn't have in my own home.

  6. SLAM! I grew up in Africa where this is very normal - my grandmother had the whole house kitted out in animal heads and cowhide rugs. Talk. about. childhood. trauma. If you have walked on one barefoot, you know they have a weird almost life-like texture (and a funny smell). I am shuddering just thinking about it!

  7. BAM! and I'm the opposite of 17 Perth. Go real or... go home? Sometimes the faux hides are a bit cheesy for my taste. In the right space, on its own or layered on top of another rug, like a seagrass rug, they are fabulous. I personally have a tri-color one and LOVE it.

  8. SLAM! It makes me wonder where the beef is and hope it isn't about to be lunch...! Just feels like I live too close to the slaughterhouse.

  9. When I was growing up I was eating soup with what I thought was beef at a friend's house. She asked me if I liked it. When I said I did she said "Well... that's him!" And pointed to the elk head on the wall. Ewwww. I don't like to think of meat as having been alive at one point. If I ate at someone's house who had those, they better not serve beef! SLAM!!!

  10. Bam, but as long as they're legit. Don't go printing zebra stripes on a cow hide, please!!

  11. Bam, though I don't own one myself. Personally, I think they look fabulous layered on a sisal or something. Love the idea of contrast.

  12. ok, i am on hiatus in cali right now, but i HAD to comment here! it is a slam for me for sure! i like the look of them, but the fact that it is a cowhide rug totally disgusts me. i couldn't have one in my home without looking at it and feeling guilty.

  13. They look great in your photos...but I don't think I would ever personally put a cow hide in my house. The feel of it and knowing it came from a cow weirds me out! So ultimately it's a SLAM for me.

  14. I love them. But, I go for a good fake.

  15. Slam! Maybe it's because I live around lots of catte ranches and think cows are pretty gross in real life. Dead cow is even yuckier in my opinion!

  16. Slam for me. They kind of creep me out. I can't imagine trying to vacuum them and they totally say tripping hazard to me.

  17. BAM! As long as it is used correctly in the right place. In high school I had a friend who's parents used one as a coverlet on their bed - that gross!

  18. I have not YET decided on this one.
I'm shocked to find myself "sort of warming up to mounted animal heads," so the real rugs---Idk yet. . . .

  19. SLAM! I am biased as I am vegan. A faux one would be fine I guess but would still look like a big dead skin spread over the floor for people to trample on. Maybe Native Americans or African tribes people used them as they suited a purpose once but this is 2011- no need!
I do love a bit of animal inspired print though- last week's leopard print was BAM BAM BAM! x

  20. hahaha I hope I didn't sound mean...I don't have anything against those grandmothers, just their choice of attire... :)

And slam for me on cowhide rugs. :/ I like their unique shape, but not their texture or appearance. I always feel like I'm looking at roadkill, which I generally try to avoid decorating my house with. ;)

  21. Total BAM for me!! Love the shape and texture... plus I'm a Texas girl that just loves a touch of cowhide every now and then. :)

  22. I do not like the look of them like these; only if they are dyed and sized to look like regular rugs.

  23. BAM for me! I love them, in foyers, family rooms, bedrooms. Especially when layered over a sisal, great look! Really adds a jolt to the room!

  24. BAM! Easiest surface to clean ever. There's a reason cows wear them.

  25. This one is hard for me. Right out the gate I would say slam in 95% of cases. However, you always have to go and ruin my definitive slams with the most beautiful pictures! But my slamming has to come from personal experience and not styled magazine quality pictures, and I can't say I have ever walked into a space with a cowhide rug and been tempted to see if it fit in my over sized purse!
