Decorating with Vignettes

In interior design, accessories are the icing on the cake. They are what completes a room- gives it personality.

One way to accessorize is to create a vignette, or tablescape. It is important when creating a vignette, or accessorizing in general, to use items that have meaning to you, this will make your home and design more personalized.

How to create a vignette.

1. Gather: items from around your home.

2. Group: the items that you have gathered by shape, size, color.

3. Build: Start with three items that relate to each other ( by shape, size, color, etc.). These three items will be your focal point. Next, choose two to four additional items that compliment your first three.

4. Unexpected: Throw in something unexpected, this will make your vignette interesting. It is ok to mix colors, periods, styles. The key is that your items relate to each other in some way.

5. Keep it Fresh: Keep your vignette fresh by changing items once in awhile, creating new vignettes from time to time.

For the Love of Burlap...

I love burlap. It is such an incredibly versatile and inexpensive fabric to use when you need to pack a punch in your design. It is all natural and the texture is wonderful.

Look at some of these beautiful ways to incorporate burlap into your home:

What do you think of burlap? Have you used it for projects? If so, I would love to hear how you used it and how they turned out. I am looking to add a little burlap to my home soon.

Loving these Rich, Masculine Rooms...

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend. The weather was beautiful here. I got out and played a little, and then spent the rest of the weekend working on projects. Hopefully, I will be able to share something with you later this week.

Until then, I will leave you with these incredible rooms! I found them while searching for design inspiration for the Airstream. I think I might have to create a mood board using them as inspiration, I can't wait.

I am loving the combination of deep earth tones, leather and rich woods. They all feel so comfortable and lived in...I can't get enough.

On The Hunt

Right now I am on the hunt...on the hunt for two wingback chairs (actually if I could find more I'd take them). I think they are terrific. Wingbacks are so versatile, they fit in with any decor, contemporary, traditional, it doesn't matter. A couple years I ALMOST inherited two from my parents....no such luck. The other day I was so close. I could have passed out when I walked through the parking lot at Goodwill and saw a man was tying a beautiful (well, beautiful if it had been reupholstered or had a slip cover) $35.00 wingback chair in the back of his truck, I wanted to cry! For now I guess I'll keep my eye on craigslist and goodwill....

My dream is to slip cover them in white and cozy them up to the fireplace in our living room, flanking either side. At the moment, we have two sofas, but I think wingbacks would be so dreamy.....

Anyway, enjoy the inspiration....I just stopped in to take a break from some big projects I'm working on...hoping the big reveal will be ready next week, with some tutorials.

Look how versatile:

How do you feel about wingbacks? Like them, love them, hate them? What kind of fabric would you use on yours?
