Myrtle Beach,SC
Now that summer is creeping in, I've been a little homesick.
Homesick for the salt and the sand, the deep blue sky and the warm ocean breeze.

Every summer for as long as I can remember, in June, we would pack up the mini-van
and travel to South Carolina for summer vacation.
Myrtle Beach, SC
We would spend our days on the beach and the evenings playing putt putt golf.

As I got older I began to think our annual family vacation was LAME..I never understood why we had to travel back to Myrtle Beach, SC EVERY year.
We knew every haunt, played every putt putt course...but it also became our
home away from home.
In 2006, I moved to SC, I met my husband there.
He was stationed in Charleston and I was living in Myrtle Beach.
I never really thought that I considered it home, but the past few weeks I have not been able to get the low country out of my head...

I miss the beaches...
...but more than that I miss the green
and the old trees

I miss Charleston more than Myrtle Beach, but I would love to be on another family vacation this week playing putt putt and visiting all of the hold haunts.
I try to keep tabs on things through a few of my favorite SC blogs:

Do you have any summer vacations planned this summer?
Happy Weekend!
We have vacationed a few times down in Holden Beach, NC which isn't too far from Myrtle. We are hoping to get back again next year, but this year we'll be in Ocean City, NJ. There's nothing like those beaches down south though.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I've never been to SC, but now I'm thinking I must go! Checking out these other bloggers now... Thanks for passing them along.
ReplyDeleteYou are my favorite New Mexico blogger :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, come back and visit SC. We can look at fabrics, go to GDC, and frolic around the Antiques Market!
Oh, and thanks again for your guest post today :)
I love Charleston! I was vacationing there about 4 years ago and completely fell in love. Such a beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first came to North Carolina to pursue my degree, the first beach we went to is Myrtle beach. So, when someone says Myrtle beach, I felt a little nostalgic!
ReplyDeleteLovely images!

ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful pictures!!!
ReplyDeleteawww, Charleston will always have my heart!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteI love SC as it is so accessible from NY - done it by road and by air. This summer we head to Kiawah Island for a week (been there before) and of course we shall do a day-trip to Charleston. Love the architecture, the vibe, the warmth! And so much history.
You are making me homesick for it, now, and I didn't grow up going there every summer.
ReplyDeletei cannot tell you how much I adore charleston. We honeymooned there and then went back for our 1 year anniversary. When our financial advisor asked us what our ultimate goal was, we said, "a vacation home in charleston." Goign to go check out those blogs, now!
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, growing up we vacationed at Pawleys Island! Every summer for 25 years, the same time [2 weeks over July 4th]. We drove down from Annapolis, Md, 12 hours with 4 kids in the car. Before you could watch movies in a car....there were 3 in the front and 3 in the back. We had to listen to the radio station that my parents wanted to listen to. Those are some great memories:)
ReplyDeleteI am a Lowcountry gal ... born right downtown at St. Frances Xavier and taken to my first home on the shores of Shem Creek when I was a few days old. I swam, sailed and water skied my Summers away. My stomping grounds were Myrtle, IOP, Sullivan's and all those great towns along the coast. I have salt water and pluff mud in my veins and I can't go too long without a Charleston "fix" now that I am a landlocked Atlanta girl. If things get tough I know an evening at the top of Vendue Inn and a day catching rays on the Carolina coast will cure me!! I've been to beaches from Hawaii to the Carribean, Monaco and the French Riviera but I'm telling you there's no place like the Lowcountry!! I love it when someone else loves it like I do :)

I'm with Mollie's Mom. I'm a lowcountry girl too and HAVE to get back as much as I can now that I'm in DC. Love getting back and spending summer days on Isle of Palm and shopping downtown! I actually just had that Angel tree picture put on canvas! <3 it!
ReplyDeleteThere is just soooo much to love about the South!! I adore Charleston ... and eat my weight in pralines when I am there. ;-)
